Beijing will continue to improve its city governance with digital and smart tools, with a focus on the management of key sectors such as medical services, education and transportation, to make a more beautiful and livable city.

At a conference during the first session of the 14th Beijing Municipal Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference on Tuesday, Yin Yong, Beijing's acting mayor, said that the city government has entered a new period in which it is gearing up from city management to mega city management.

He said at the conference that all governance should prioritize people's needs and desire for a better life, and secure safety.

He stressed that it's also important to modernize city management and improve the system to be smarter and more digital.

Beijing's CPPCC also made proposals for the city's future development in green economy, urban planning and uses for the Winter Olympics heritage.

Qian Jiahong, a member of the Beijing's CPPCC Committee, suggested at a side event during the five-day session that the city could apply green technologies to the renovation of heat insulation walls and some small-space construction. It is also necessary to explore safer resource-saving materials to improve construction standards and reach low-carbon targets.

Other members, who focused on the sports sector, made suggestions to help boost the development of the city's sports, culture and tourism industries in the post-Olympic era.

For example, the government could open some venues to the public and offer winter sports events. It would also be beneficial to introduce some sports games to the city, which will help the growth of sports-related tourism by offering services to international coaches, athletes and travelers, they said.

The five-day session opened on Saturday and closed on Wednesday.
